25 Missed Calls from Nick Vanderbilt
I stared at my phone. My mood had dropped several notches since the morning, I felt like I was going to start crying again. Aaron had disappeared from the house and it was starting to become depressingly lonely in my over-sized bedroom. I groaned and buried my face in my pillow. It was 6pm, my hair and make-up weren't done. Mum and Dad were too busy with last minute preparations to spare time worrying about me.
'Screwed over by a two-timing asshole, good job Adelyna Lee.' My voice sounded particularly pathetic.
My door was suddenly kicked open with a bang. Aaron.
"HEY FEELING BETTER?" The idiot was tipsy. He came over to me, and gave me a bone-crushing hug.
"AARON! GEROFF ME!" I had a hard time breathing.
"You were pretty saaaad last night. You 'kay now?"
"Get out and sober up."
"Stop being depressed alriiigh'. I'm jus' worried."
I pushed him out of my room, and shut the door behind me before sinking to the floor, head on my knees. Half an hour later, someone started knocking at my door.
"Get lost!" I yelled.
"Lyna open up!"
"NO. You're not even sane."
"I just took a freezing shower, and drank like a hundred litres of water. I'm pretty damn sober. Now open up before I break this door off its hinges."
I sigh, getting up and opening the door, looking dishevelled.
"I'm sorry about before, are you alright? What happened?"
"Long story. Shouldn't you be getting to the ball before Mum starts breathing fire? Tell her I'm incredibly sick with a contagious disease. Thanks."
I close the door in his puzzled face. I hear him sigh, and the beeping noises of his mobile phone. I walk across the room and see the missed call button flash on my cell.
1 missed call from Celeste
What does she want? I hadn't been to the hospital since I got the note from Teddy. I paused, thinking. After weighing up my choices, I made up my mind pulling off my pyjamas and slipped into a light blue day-dress. Smoothing concealer over my dark circles, applying eyeliner and swiping on lip-gloss, I grabbed my bag and headed out. Aaron was no-where to be seen as I exited the house and hailed a cab.
Visiting hours weren't over at the hospital, not that it mattered to me. Room 216 was half-open. I heard voices coming from inside ... Nick. I stood at the doorway, heart beating furiously.
"...lying bitch."
"Nothing happened between us. You know that. Just tell her the truth, please, I'm begging you."
"She's never done anything for me. Nick, why can't you just ditch her? What's so great about her anyway. You said you loved me, not her! She's not half as pretty as I am anyway."
"I never said that! I TOLD YOU. NOTHING HAPPENED ON THAT NIGHT!"
"Why are you still denying it Nick? You said that you would marry me. LOOK. I EVEN HAVE THE RING YOU GAVE ME."
I banged the door wide open and stepped into the room.
